Finally, a summer reading list for 2009

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

So I’m going to group this into categories. Ready? Let’s go.

Vampires!

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice

Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris

Non-vampire fiction!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

Breakfast of Champions by Kurt Vonnegut

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

The Book of Evidence by John Banville

Non-fiction!

Falling Leaves by Adeline Yen Mah

Mao by Jung Chang

China Road by Rob Gifford

That’s 10 books, and there are… let’s see… 13 or 14 weeks left of summer. I’m already halfway through China Road, 100 pages or so into The Vampire Lestat, and Harry Potter is Harry Potter, so that won’t take long. Ambitious? Maybs. Doable? Hopefully. :sweatdrop:

Hi, video games. Long time no play.

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I love, love, love video games. :duh: And I haven’t played one (well, not for more than an hour or so) in like months. :dead: So today I FINALLLY started playing Chrono Cross, which I’ve been meaning to play for, like, ever. (I bought it at Video Games New York, the best game store ever, for my bday in March.)

And oh, how I’ve missed PlayStation RPGs! :whee:

Chrono Cross is refreshing to play, because it has some of the same feel/look as the Final Fantasy games that I’ve played a gazillion times, but its battle system is totally different, as is its music. Which, oh yeah, is freaking awesome. (I bought the soundtrack like 3 years ago, before I actually played the game.) Below, some good ones from the beginning of the game:

Time of the Dreamwatch

I also listened to a video game podcast this morning (Listen Up (formerly 1up Yours) obvs), and I’m planning on actually listening at least for the next week, while E3 is going on. Super-excited.

 video games. I should play them more often. More on other non-game-related stuff later.
