I am so glad that I have an eye doctor appointment next week.
I’ve been getting a headache whenever I pick up a book, my iPhone, or my DS. Which is obviously problematic because I do all of the above so often. (I’ve known I was a little far-sighted for awhile, but it’s only recently started tormenting me like this.) And for the first time in my life, I can feel my vision blurring when I look really far away too, if only in one eye.
So last night I bought some cheap-o reading glasses, which are helping so far, but hopefully my problems will be fully solved after I see the doctor next week.
Anyway, a lot has happened in the past week or so. Most of it (including the stuff I just talked about, wow!) has to do with books. Here we go:
After talking to one of my new friends from Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, which by the way is AWESOME, I was finally convinced to catalog all the books I own on LibraryThing. In doing this, I discovered that I own (not counting most of the books I had/read as a kid) nearly 600 books!
Check it out:

No wonder I have so many books that I haven’t read yet. And I keep buying more every week, because they are just so cheap at Housing Works.
Most importantly, though, I got a job for next semester! No but seriously. That means I’m set kind of indefinitely, work-wise, which is kind of crazy and I’m a little bit in disbelief.
So starting next semester, I’ll be working at Book Culture, which has just opened a new location dedicated to my fave: bestsellers and mass-markets!
I’m only going to have class two days per week, which is awesome, so I’ll be able to work at Book Culture the other days. I anticipate that it will be a lot of fun.
Oh! And I think…
I’ve decided on my classes for my last ever semester of college:
- Introductory Chinese 1
- Supernatural in Japanese Fiction
- Science Fiction Literature
- Art Humanities
- Karate (again!)
Yeah, it’s pretty much the best schedule ever.

Aww sorry to read about your eyes
I hope the doctor can help you out!
Woah almost 600 books, that’s a LOT
I also love books, but I’m thinking of getting a subscription at the library again. The space on my bookshelves is too limited *le sigh* I don’t even want to think of what to do with all my books when I move.
Congrats on your new job
hehe your courses for 2nd semester look pretty good!
Karate class in college??! Friggin’ rad.
You’re so lucky to have access to all the cheap books! I suppose I could go to my local library but they never have good books.
Aww no I have myopia myself – yech. I can’t help but put my face so close to the paper when drawing!
Haha, no you didn’t make me superstitious about Fri 13th –
Holy shit! Almost 600 books? I wish I could afford to own that many.
And your schedule rocks.

Science Fiction Literature?! Holy crap, I want to take that class!
Good luck with your eye doctor appointment! I’m near-sighted and basically blind without my contacts/glasses.
Wow, 600 books is impressive! I wish I had that many!
Your schedule looks fun. Mine is filled with math and programming crap, it makes me want to hate class. And I used to love learning. What has college done to me?!
And books are amazing. I pride myself on collecting books, and one day dream of having an awesome personal library, but I believe you beat me by far on the amount currently owned, lol
Book Culture sounds facinating! I want to do it lol
I buy books all the time and then forget or don’t get round to reading some too. When I had my student loan I brought books practically every week, I have shelves of ones I’ve just not go to yet, though I definitley don’t have as many books as you. I’ll have to try and make it my mission to catch up haha.
Oh wow! That’s a lot of books! And I thought my just above 300 books were a lot!
I started cataloguing my books at LibraryThing but discovered that you had to pay for cataloguing more than 200 books which I didn’t feel like doing so I abandoned the site. Does it still cost?
Lots of fiction on your schedule!
Woohooooo
BTW, who’s teaching sci-fi?
That is a crazy amount of books, my gosh. See, it’s posts like this that make me think I should pick up more books and read. I don’t even remember the last time that I read a book because I wanted to…eep.
I think your class schedule looks like a ton of fun, especially since it’s all stuff you seem to be interested in! It’s so awesome to be excited to go to class because you like the content.
Props to you, lady.
Have a good Thanksgiving!
