“Expelliarmus!” (on my arm, in tattoo form)

Yes, ridiculous nerd that I am, “Expelliarmus” was the tattoo that I’ve been planning FOR TWO YEARS. :woot: For those of you who don’t know its significance to the Harry Potter series, it is the disarming spell. But the actual significance is a spoiler (albeit a several-year-old one, but I’d never want to ruin Harry Potter for anyone), so if you want more details, click here.

Close-up

Also there is various actual significance to my life, but if I said it here on this blog it would probably sound dumb and/or cheesy. And maybe it is. But it’s important to me, so I decided I’d get this tattoo sophomore year of college, and now I’ve gotten it. And I am thrilled!

A little perspective

I think it turned out really well. My tattooist, Josh Schlageter, at Hand of Doom Tattoo here in Buffalo, is really awesome and if you’re in the Buffalo area and need a tattoo (can a person need a tattoo? hm…), I couldn’t give him a higher recommendation. The whole experience was great from start to finish: professional, clean, friendly, blah blah blah. And it hurt, but not SO bad. Actually I think it hurt more than I expected, but it was definitely bearable. I only cringed a couple of times over the course of the whole hour…

A couple videos below, taken by Tom, who was there with me, being jealous that I got a tattoo first ( :bounce: ).

Me asking a question that you can’t hear over the buzz of the tattoo gun:

And me marveling at the prettiness now on my arm:

I was always under the impression that they were super painful, so I was kinda scared when I got mine but I was pleasantly surprised it wasn’t bad at all, the only part that was a little more irritating was the coloring in. I just realized I never posted a pic of my tattoo and I’ve had it for almost 2 years now.

Its lovely! He did an awesome job.

Wow, when you go see the new HP movie, you’ll really be able to knock those fake-glasses-wearing kids out of the water with your tattoo. :-)

    Congrats!

I sent a ticket complaining that I’d already paid. After sending two emails and not getting a reply.

Wow that’s awesome! I have wanted a rather dorky tattoo for years as well, but I am still tattoo-free as of now. I’m not sure when I’ll do it, but one day I will get the NES Zappers crossed behind an 8-bit skull, or perhaps a mushroom. Anyway, I really love the style and font you used, it looks great!

Thanks!! I like your idea, too. You should do it! (I’m partial to the mushroom) I really want an 8-bit style tattoo too (ha) at some point, but I can’t decide what. A little space invader? (so iconic) A final fantasy character? A little heart?
