I review “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”

Want to know what I thought? (I decided not to post this until the film actually came out.) Click here.

If you read (or skim) my review, you’ll see that I was super disappointed with the sixth Harry Potter movie. :sigh:

I’m actually seeing it again tonight, because I always like to see the HP movies multiple times, and maybe it’ll be better with some popcorn. (Though something tells me the things I didn’t like about it won’t be solved by food…)

However, I usually wouldn’t mention this, but just b/c it’s a negative review of a Harry Potter thing I will: I’ve gotten really good feedback about this review; a lot of people have been telling me that it’s one of the only ones out there they agree with. I wonder if most of the people who review the movies haven’t read the books? Well I hear Michael Gambon, who plays Dumbledore, doesn’t read them… so I won’t really be surprised by anything at this point!

Anyway, do people agree or disagree with me? Inquiring me wants to know. :doubt:

(Oh & in case you’re interested, here are two other of the slightly biggish stories I’ve written: A preview of the Warped Tour and a preview of the Taste of Buffalo.)

I wish I had someone to go with! My sister is leaving for England (go fig) tomorrow and my boyfriend hasn’t seen any of them besides the first.

Seriously good review Liz, I’m looking forward to seeing this on monday but I’m more then happy to take your word on all of it.

The weird thing is that after reading your review, I didn’t think it was super negative at all. I thought you made a nuanced point—the movie had some great performances and was fine overall, but it cut out too many of the rich details that are hugely significant in the book. I wouldn’t say it was a positive review, but it def wasn’t like, “DON’T SEE THE MOVIE.” I thought it was well-done, even if I had a different take on the movie (not far off from yours, just different). Nice job!

      Thanks for reading. :)
Yeah I mean I was laughing during the movie (in a good way), so it can’t have been all bad. In retrospect, though, it kind of just makes me angrier and angrier.

Oh god. :ugh: Don’t get me started on how angry I was after I saw the 6th movie. I completely agree with your review. Your quote pretty much summarizes the entire experience for me:
“And then the plot begins to thicken, in all the wrong ways.”

Say Something!
